Overview

How spearfishing is treated at Port Erin Bay Marine Nature Reserve.

4.5 km2 west-facing bay MNR on the south-west coast at Port Erin, which funnels wind and waves from the Irish Sea. Protected habitats include rocky reefs, kelp forests, brittlestar beds and plaice nurseries. Taking scallops/queen scallops by diving is prohibited under byelaw 10, and byelaw 8 species/habitats are protected. Spiny lobster may be taken here (named exception in byelaw 8(k)). Spearfishing subject to MNR byelaws plus island-wide rules.
