What this zone is
Overview
How spearfishing is treated at Kubbar Island Marine Reserve.
Kubbar is a small sandy island ~30 km off Kuwait's southern coast surrounded by extensive coral reefs, designated a marine reserve under the Environment Public Authority (EPA) and listed in the World Database on Protected Areas (Protected Planet). As a protected reef area within Kuwaiti territorial waters, it falls under the national speargun ban (Decree No. 22 of 1980) and the 3-nautical-mile coastal no-fishing belt; its reefs (hard/soft corals, reef fish, rays) are protected from fishing pressure.
