Overview
How spearfishing is treated at Anse Chastanet Marine Reserve (SMMA).
No-take Marine Reserve within the Soufriere Marine Management Area (SMMA), covering the reefs of Anse Chastanet Bay including Turtle Reef, extending to the westernmost point of Trou au Diable Beach and taking in Grande Caille Reef. Declared under the Fisheries Act No. 10 of 1984 (re-declared 2000; Anse Chastanet reefs first declared 1990). All fishing is closed here and the use of a spear gun for fishing is prohibited in any Marine Reserve (Fisheries Regulations 1994, Reg. 44(5)). Access for diving/snorkelling is by SMMA permit only.
