How spearfishing is treated at Gros Piton Marine Sanctuary (SMMA).

No-take Marine Reserve within the Soufriere Marine Management Area (SMMA), covering the reefs from the northern extent of Gros Piton to the westernmost point of Gros Piton. This reserve has been declared a Marine Sanctuary — closed to ALL activities except authorised scientific research (a stricter regime than the other SMMA reserves). Declared under the Fisheries Act No. 10 of 1984. Spear-gun fishing is prohibited in any Marine Reserve (Fisheries Regulations 1994, Reg. 44(5)).
