Overview
How spearfishing is treated at Petit Piton Marine Reserve (SMMA).
No-take Marine Reserve within the Soufriere Marine Management Area (SMMA), covering the reefs from the southern end of Malgretoute Beach to the northern end of Jalousie Beach — i.e. the reefs around Petit Piton. Declared under the Fisheries Act No. 10 of 1984 (re-declared 2000; earlier sections at Malgretoute and Anse des Pitons declared 1986). All fishing is closed and spear-gun fishing is prohibited in any Marine Reserve (Fisheries Regulations 1994, Reg. 44(5)). Diving/snorkelling by SMMA permit only.
