Overview
How spearfishing is treated at Rachette Point Marine Reserve (SMMA).
No-take Marine Reserve within the Soufriere Marine Management Area (SMMA), covering the reefs from just west of Rachette Point to and including Bat Cave. Declared under the Fisheries Act No. 10 of 1984 (re-declared 2000; a reef section between Grande Caille and Rachette Point was first declared 1986). All fishing is closed and spear-gun fishing is prohibited in any Marine Reserve (Fisheries Regulations 1994, Reg. 44(5)). Diving/snorkelling by SMMA permit only.
