Overview
How spearfishing is treated at Savannes Bay Mangrove Marine Reserve.
No-take Marine Reserve (mangrove and seagrass lagoon) at Savannes Bay on the south-east coast, first declared 1986 and re-declared 2000 under the Fisheries Act No. 10 of 1984 (WDPA/Protected Planet site 12706, Marine Reserve; a RAMSAR site since 2002 and part of the wider Pointe Sable Environmental Protection Area). All fishing is closed and spear-gun fishing is prohibited in any Marine Reserve (Fisheries Regulations 1994, Reg. 44(5)).
