Overview

How spearfishing is treated at Matka Lake (Treska reservoir).

Oldest artificial lake in North Macedonia (reservoir built 1938 by damming the Treska River in Matka Canyon, near Skopje). Stocked with fish and frequently used for recreational fishing by permit. Spearfishing is prohibited nationwide under Article 93 of the Law on Fisheries and Aquaculture; underwater guns and spears are not authorised tackle anywhere in the country's fishing waters.

Issued by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management (state permit) or by the concessionaire at designated marked sale points for a given fishing ревир/recreational zone (Art. 52). Foreign nationals can be issued a recreational permit without holding a legitimacija (Art. 50).
