How spearfishing is treated at Onon and Balj rivers (Khentii aimag) — taimen sanctuary, no spearfishing.
Protected Onon–Balj river system in Khentii aimag, a premier taimen fishery open ONLY to permitted rod-and-line / fly fishing (single barbless hooks; taimen catch-and-release for foreigners; permits via ezagas.mn; approx. 16 June – 1 November). Spearfishing and netting are not permitted here — nor anywhere in Mongolia: the Law on Hunting Art. 14.1.6 bans taking fish with forks/spears/torches/electric shock.
