Inhaca and Portuguese Islands Faunal Reserve (Reserva da Inhaca e dos Portugueses)
What this zone is
Overview
How spearfishing is treated at Inhaca and Portuguese Islands Faunal Reserve (Reserva da Inhaca e dos Portugueses).
Marine/faunal reserve at the entrance of Maputo Bay (Delagoa Bay), encompassing Inhaca Island and the uninhabited Portuguese Island (Ilha dos Portugueses), gazetted in 1965 to protect coral reefs, mangroves, seagrass meadows and reef ecosystems. Most of the island and surrounding waters are a marine reserve where extractive activity is restricted; spearfishing is incompatible with the no-take coral-reef protection. Conservation-area access and fishing are governed by Decree 82/2021 art.17 plus the area regime.
