Overview

How spearfishing is treated at Vamizi Community Marine Sanctuary.

Community-led no-take marine sanctuary surrounding much of the eastern side of Vamizi Island in the northern Quirimbas Archipelago, Cabo Delgado Province. The sanctuary extends approximately three kilometres out to sea and is a designated 'no-take' fishing zone policed by the local Fisheries Council (CCP); it protects ~180 coral species and 400+ reef-fish species. All extraction including spearfishing is prohibited within the no-take zone.

License for Mozambique

Whether you need a license to spearfish here, and how to get one.

License requiredvia Administração Nacional das Pescas (ADNAP) / provincial fisheries administration, under the Ministry overseeing fisheries; issued via Maritime Offices.

Apply individually using the Annex IV model form with an identity document (passport for foreigners). Submitted to the provincial body responsible for fisheries management (or delegated entity / Maritime Office). Minors under 16 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. May be issued electronically.
