What this zone is
Overview
How spearfishing is treated at Punta San Juan (Reserva Nacional Sistema de Islas, Islotes y Puntas Guaneras).
Named sector of the Reserva Nacional Sistema de Islas, Islotes y Puntas Guaneras (D.S. 024-2009-MINAM, 31 Dec 2009) near San Juan de Marcona (Ica): comprises the Punta San Juan guano point in its entirety plus the surrounding marine volume down to the seabed defined by 7 UTM vertices in the decree's annex (area 2,968.80 ha). As with the rest of the network, sport/recreational fishing (which covers spearfishing) inside requires prior inscription in SERNANP's sport-fishing registry (Art. 8) and is subject to the reserve's management-plan restrictions on gear, sizes, closed periods and geographic prohibitions (Art. 6). SERNANP has conducted enforcement interventions against illegal diver-based extraction (e.g. red sea urchin) specifically in this sector.
