Overview

Almost perfectly round island ~6.5 km southwest of Panglao, Bohol, one of the Visayas' premier dive destinations (turtles, jacks, barracuda). Protected as the Balicasag Island Fish Sanctuary, with roots in Silliman University's Marine Conservation Development Program (1985-86); buoy-marked no-take zones ring the island's reef, and fishing (including spearfishing) is prohibited inside the sanctuary (Sec. 101 of the Fisheries Code).
