Overview
How spearfishing is treated at Gato Island Marine Reserve (Sea Snake and Fish Sanctuary).
Rocky islet in the Visayan Sea between Malapascua and Carnaza, Municipality of Daanbantayan, Cebu, famous for its tunnel/cave dives, whitetip reef sharks and sea kraits. Daanbantayan declared the island a sea snake and fish sanctuary in 1997, re-enacted in 2001 to include the 2-nautical-mile periphery. Fishing (including spearfishing) is prohibited within the sanctuary (Sec. 101 of the Fisheries Code).
