How spearfishing is treated at Reserva Marina Arrecife de la Isla Verde (Isla Verde Reef Marine Reserve), Carolina.
Coastal coral-reef marine protected area at Punta del Medio, Isla Verde, municipality of Carolina (San Juan metro area), on Puerto Rico's north coast. Designated a marine reserve by Ley Num. 274 of 26 September 2012 and co-managed by DRNA, the Municipality of Carolina and Arrecifes Pro-Ciudad. Fishing (including spearfishing) and the passage of motorized vessels are prohibited within the reserve. Habitat for sea turtles (carey, tinglar), manatees and elkhorn/staghorn coral (Acropora palmata, A. cervicornis).

Apply to DRNA (Departamento de Recursos Naturales y Ambientales) using the official form; must be 13 or older and carry the license while fishing. Children under 13 are exempt but must be accompanied by a licensed adult (except shore fishing). Clients fishing with a licensed charter/headboat owner are exempt.
