No-take reef zone ('area de no coleccion / no take zone y de recuperacion arrecifal') on the coral reef of the Reserva Natural Isla de Caja de Muertos, off Ponce on Puerto Rico's south coast. Under the in-force Reglamento de Pesca de Puerto Rico (Reglamento Num. 7949, 2010), Art. 8.41, fishing for any aquatic or semi-aquatic organism is prohibited within the fourteen geographic coordinates delimiting this area, the sole exception being the taking of lionfish (pez leon) under the special authorization of Art. 22 (scientific-research permits under Art. 19 also excepted). Spearfishing (arpon) is additionally prohibited in all marine reserves / designated reserve areas under Art. 8.5. The island of Caja de Muertos has been a DRNA-administered Reserva Natural since 1980, protected for its sea-turtle nesting, dry forest and reefs.
