What this zone is

Overview

How spearfishing is treated at Reserva Natural das Ilhas Selvagens (Madeira).

Selvagens (Savage) Islands Nature Reserve, ~250 km south of Madeira (Selvagem Grande, Selvagem Pequena, Ilhéu de Fora) — one of the first nature reserves in Portugal (1971) and the largest fully-protected MPA of the North Atlantic, a strict no-take protection area where all extractive activities including fishing are prohibited. (Note: recent regional debate about opening to commercial tuna fishing; spearfishing remains barred.)
