How spearfishing is treated at French Polynesia fully-protected no-take zone - Gambier Islands (2025 MPA).

Part of the world's largest marine protected area declared by French Polynesia in June 2025 covering the entire EEZ. A ~680,000 km2 fully/highly protected (IUCN I/II) zone around the Gambier Islands where no extractive fishing or mining is permitted, hence spearfishing is prohibited. Center point placed on the Gambier Islands (representative centroid of a large offshore block).
