Overview

How spearfishing is treated at Tetepare Island Marine Protected Area (no-take zone).

Largest LMMA / marine protected area in the Solomon Islands, on uninhabited Tetepare Island, Western Province. A contiguous ~13 km no-take zone (5.3 km fringing reef + 7 km barrier reef) has been permanently closed to all harvesting since 2003, running along the southern weather coast from Mbo Point on the western tip to the eastern edge of Soe Island. Reefs, lagoons and coastal waters are closed to all harvesting (including spearfishing). Patrolled by TDA rangers and marine monitors.
