How spearfishing is treated at Ilhéu das Rolas–Malanza–Jalé Marine Protected Area.
First formally designated MPA (2026) in São Tomé's national network, on the island's southern coast, spanning Ilhéu das Rolas, the Malanza mangrove and Jalé turtle beach; 55.8 km² total of which ~8 km² is a fully protected no-take core (all extractive/destructive activity, incl. spearfishing, prohibited), the remainder a sustainable-use zone limited to artisanal fishers using legal gear.
