Overview
How spearfishing is treated at Santana Marine Protected Area.
Formally designated MPA (2026) in São Tomé's national network, on the island's eastern coast off the town of Santana; 7.4 km² total of which ~1 km² is a fully protected no-take zone (industrial fishing and collection of marine resources, incl. spearfishing, prohibited), the remainder a sustainable-use zone for artisanal fishers using legal gear.
