Overview

How spearfishing is treated at French Cay Sanctuary (S2).

Protected wildlife sanctuary on a small low-lying cay in the Caicos Banks, about 18 miles (29 km) south of Providenciales. An important seabird breeding site and one of the premier shark areas in TCI. As a sanctuary/protected area, taking of marine products is prohibited (lionfish under licence excepted).

License requiredvia Department of Environment and Coastal Resources (DECR) / Department of Fisheries and Marine Resources Management

Apply to the Department of Environment and Coastal Resources (DECR) / Department of Fisheries and Marine Resources Management (offices on South Dock Road, Providenciales; also Grand Turk and South Caicos). Many fishing charters obtain the recreational licence on the client's behalf. Lionfish licences can only be purchased in person at the Department of Fisheries office.
