What this zone is

Overview

How spearfishing is treated at Kayrakkum Reservoir ('Tajik Sea').

Large artificial reservoir on the Syr Darya in Ghafurov District, Sughd Province (~523 km2, length ~56 km), renamed the 'Tajik Sea' in 2016 and a popular summer recreation spot where people fish, swim and sunbathe. It is a recreational/amateur fishing waterbody (carp, etc.); a permit is still required and the spawning closed season applies. NOTE: it is also a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance (Ref. 1083, designated 18 July 2001) and an Important Bird Area, so it carries conservation obligations - but Ramsar/IBA listing alone does NOT prohibit recreational fishing here. No source addresses whether spearfishing specifically is permitted on this reservoir.
