Overview
How spearfishing is treated at Nanumea Conservation Area (central lagoon no-take zone).
Conservation area established in 2006 covering about 2 km2 of the central lagoon of Nanumea atoll (roughly 10% of the reef area, including 2 islets). Distinct from the allowed outer reef slope: nets and spearing have been prohibited in all parts of the lagoon since the early 1990s. Listed in WDPA/Protected Planet (Nanumea LMMA, WDPA ID 555547863).
