How spearfishing is treated at Nukulaelae Conservation Area / Locally Managed Marine Area.
Marine conservation area at the eastern end of Nukulaelae lagoon, managed by the Kaupule (island council) as a locally managed marine area. Listed in WDPA/Protected Planet (WDPA ID 555547862). It is one of the conservation areas/LMMAs established on Tuvalu's outer islands. Nukulaelae also has the Control of Faapuku and Kaumu Bye-Law (1984) restricting spear/net fishing for those species June-August, with reports that spearfishing was later banned island-wide. Atoll coordinate point used; the conservation zone lies at the eastern end of the lagoon.
