A 1,530-hectare Catawba River impoundment above Oxford Dam. 15A NCAC 10C .0407 entry (2) authorises spear guns in Lake Hickory by name in Alexander County, and the other counties on the lake (Burke, Caldwell, Catawba) authorise spear guns in all their public waters, so the reservoir is open to freshwater spearfishing. Season 1 July to 30 June (year-round); a licence conveying inland fishing or special-device privileges is required; only nongame fish may be kept, game fish must be released unharmed (15A NCAC 10C .0402(d)).
