How spearfishing is treated at Madison and Swanson Sites (Gulf of Mexico, off Florida).
A federal year-round no-fishing box in the Gulf of Mexico EEZ south of Cape San Blas, Florida. 50 CFR 622.34(a)(2) provides that within the Madison and Swanson sites "Fishing is prohibited year-round", and for that paragraph "fish means finfish, mollusks, crustaceans, and all other forms of marine animal and plant life other than marine mammals and birds". Spearfishing is therefore illegal there at any time of year. These are offshore federal waters, well beyond ordinary recreational diving depth.
