Overview

How spearfishing is treated at Shaw Island (Parks Bay to Hicks Bay) unit, San Juan Islands Marine Preserve (Washington).

A 500-yard band of tidelands and bedlands along the north-west side of Shaw Island between Hicks Bay and Parks Bay, including all of Parks Bay south of the boundary line, defined by WAC 220-302-100(5). WAC 220-305-080(2)(c) closes all food fish other than salmon (crab may still be taken from Parks Bay), and Washington forbids spearing salmon under WAC 220-310-130, so — herring aside, which the rule leaves open — no fish a spearfisher can target may lawfully be taken here.
