How spearfishing is treated at Aliwal Shoal Marine Protected Area (Restricted zones).

MPA on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast (off Umkomaas), declared under section 43 of the Marine Living Resources Act. It is zoned into Restricted zones (incl. the Crown Area Restricted zone on the 25 m isobath and the Produce Restricted zone) and a Controlled zone. Spearfishing is prohibited in the Restricted zones, and it is an offence to be in possession of an armed speargun there.

Apply and pay online via https://www.fishing.dffe.gov.za, or at an office/outlet authorised by the Minister. Available to anyone 12 years or older. Permit must be available for inspection while fishing.
