What this zone is
Overview
How spearfishing is treated at uThukela Marine Protected Area (Restricted zones).
Coastal and offshore MPA on the central KwaZulu-Natal coast around the Thukela River mouth (Mtunzini to Tinley Manor), declared under the NEM: Protected Areas Act (Government Gazette 42478/42479 of 2019). It contains two inshore Restricted Zones (Amatikulu, uSetheni) and an offshore Restricted Zone (uThukela Offshore, TORZ, including the Kob and Carpenter reefs) that are no-take areas where fishing, including the deployment of spearguns, is prohibited. (The Controlled Zones separately permit permitted linefishing/spearfishing; this prohibited pin sits in the no-take TORZ.)
