What this zone is

Overview

How spearfishing is treated at Kafue National Park protected waters (Lake Itezhi-Tezhi & Kafue River within the park).

Kafue National Park is Zambia's largest national park; the Kafue River and Lake Itezhi-Tezhi reservoir run through it. Fishing inside the park is tightly regulated and permit-controlled: only fishers with legal permits from the Department of Fisheries may fish, no fishing is allowed within 500 m of tourism camps or in defined breeding areas, and fishing/fishing camps are restricted to designated mainland areas. Any spearfishing here would be subject to these park controls plus the Fisheries Act licence and the annual closed season (Lake/Lake Itezhi-Tezhi is on the list of waters covered by the 1 Dec–end Feb ban). A representative center point on Lake Itezhi-Tezhi (on the lower Kafue, within the park) is used.
