Troubridge Hill Aquatic Reserve, South Australia

Aquatic reserve in Investigator Strait off the south-east tip of Yorke Peninsula, running from Suicide Point south-east along the shore below Troubridge Hill lighthouse and out to a seaward boundary about 1.8 km offshore. It was constituted under section 4 of the Fisheries Management Act 2007 (SA), whose section 76 makes any fishing activity in an aquatic reserve an offence unless the regulations authorise it. Regulation 4(b)(iv) of the Fisheries Management (Aquatic Reserves) Regulations 2016 authorises exactly one activity here — taking fish by using a hand line or rod and line. Spearfishing is therefore prohibited over the whole reserve, which protects a shallow rocky reef and seagrass nursery. The 482-hectare reserve is entered lawfully for diving or swimming under regulation 4(a)(iv); only the spear is unavailable.
