Conservation Area at Marsascala / Żonqor Point

Conservation Area off Marsascala (Żonqor Point) on Malta's south-east coast, covering the scuttled tugboat wrecks (St Michael / Tug 10). Spear fishing is prohibited, as are set bottom lines, trammel nets, gill nets and entangling nets, encircling nets, and demersal pots and traps. Marsascala is named among the five Conservation Areas excluded from the trolling-line (rixa) concession, so trolling is prohibited here whether or not a diving vessel is flying the Alpha flag. Only vessels engaged in recreational or technical diving operations may enter or moor, and only after pre-notification to Valletta VTS on VHF channel 12.
