«Kellarion» Byzantine harbour cove, Gulf of Thessaloniki — underwater archaeological site

A small cove in the Gulf of Thessaloniki, identified with the Byzantine-era harbour «Κελλάριον» and protected together with the underwater barrage that shielded it, is a declared marine archaeological site; towed gear, mechanised shellfish harvesting, sponge fishing and SPEARFISHING are prohibited there. Basis: ministerial decision ΥΠΠΟ/ΑΡΧ/Β1/Φ34/13400/421 (ΦΕΚ 384 Β΄/24 May 1989), «Κήρυξη θαλάσσιας περιοχής του Κόλπου Θεσσαλονίκης ως αρχαιολογικού χώρου», read with art. Α§2(δ) of KYA ΦΕΚ 336 Β΄/2004; listed on the Thessaloniki Central Port Authority's current prohibition register. Note that the whole Gulf of Thessaloniki is in any case closed to the speargun year-round by art. 9 §2(γ) of π.δ. 68/2009, so this site adds a second, cultural-heritage layer to an existing total ban. NO MAP PIN: the 1989 decision delimits the cove only «του συνημμένου σχεδίου» — on an attached plan — and publishes no latitude or longitude.
