Área Marina Protegida Namuncurá-Banco Burdwood I (zona de máxima protección: Reserva Nacional Marina Estricta / Parque Nacional Marino)

Argentina's first open-ocean MPA on the Burdwood Bank/Banco Namuncurá submarine plateau in the South Atlantic (created by Ley 26.875, 2013; adapted to the national MPA system, Ley 27.037, via Decreto PEN 888/2019). The Federal Fisheries Council's Resolucion CFP N.18/2008 established a zone of total fishing prohibition on the bank, made permanent by Disposicion SSPyA N.250/2008 ('prohibido en forma total y permanente la actividad pesquera en dicha zona'). The 2022 official management plan confirms the eastern strict-protection sectors -Reserva Nacional Marina Estricta (RNME, east of meridian 60 45'W, south of the 200 m isobath to parallel 55 45'S / meridian 58 00'W) and Parque Nacional Marino (PNM, east of meridian 60 45'W and the 200 m isobath)- both list 'Pesca comercial: Prohibido' and 'Prospeccion, Exploracion y Actividades Extractivas: Prohibido' with no sport/recreational-fishing exception at all (only the smaller western Reserva Nacional Marina sector permits regulated fishing under a fisheries management plan). Coordinate is the centroid of the original core ('zona nucleo') box 54 15'-54 30'S x 59 30'-60 30'W, which sits within the present-day RNME/PNM total-prohibition sector.
