Aunu'u Unit Zone B (Research Zone), National Marine Sanctuary of American Samoa

The 3.9 sq mi Research Zone ('Zone B') on the eastern/southeastern side of Aunu'u Island within the National Marine Sanctuary of American Samoa. Only research, education, recreation and surface fishing (trolling) for pelagic species are allowed; fishing for bottom-dwelling (reef) species is prohibited, so reef/bottom spearfishing is not permitted here. Sanctuary-wide, spearguns/pole spears/Hawaiian slings while on SCUBA are also banned. Distinct from the adjacent allowed Aunu'u Zone A (multipurpose area, west/south sides).
