North Head Area 1 Special Purpose Shore Based Activities Area, Jurien Bay Marine Park (Western Australia)

A special-purpose management area of Jurien Bay Marine Park covering the northern of the two North Head strips, immediately south of Jurien townsite between 30°12.455’S and 30°12.806’S. Clause 4(1) of the Prohibition on Recreational Fishing (Jurien Bay Marine Park) Order 2005 (Order No. 18 of 2005, made under s.43 of the Fish Resources Management Act 1994) prohibits all recreational fishing here. Clauses 4(2) and 4(3) restore only shore-based, boat-free fishing: abalone or rock lobster taken without diving, a fishing line, or a fishing net. Spearfishing is in none of those categories, so no speargun, harpoon, gidgie or Hawaiian sling may be used in this area. Enforcement is by DPIRD fisheries officers; a narrow strip of water off the North Head shore, reaching only about 115 m out from the high water mark.
