Paleokastro Megalochoriou (Methana) underwater archaeological site

Spearfishing (ψαροντούφεκο) is prohibited all year round in the sea area off Paleokastro at Megalochori on the Methana peninsula (Troizinia, Argolida), a declared underwater archaeological site. The site was declared by ministerial decision ΥΠΠΟ/ΓΔΑ/ΑΡΧ/Α1/Φ43/37132/2308 (ΦΕΚ 901 Β΄/17 July 2002) — «Κήρυξη θαλάσσιου αρχαιολογικού χώρου στη περιοχή του Παλαιοκάστρου Μεγαλοχωρίου Μεθάνων» — to protect submerged building remains in front of the ancient city of Methana; the gear ban that follows from the declaration is set by art. Α§2(δ) of KYA ΥΠΠΟ/ΓΔΑΠΚ/ΑΡΧ/Α1/Φ41/11228/1865 (ΦΕΚ 336 Β΄/11 Feb 2004) and is listed on the Poros Port Authority's current prohibition register. NO MAP PIN: the 2002 decision delimits the area only by points Α–Ζ on an attached 1:5,000 Hellenic Military Geographical Service (ΓΥΣ) map sheet, whose X/Ψ values (X −10.275 … −11.579, Ψ −19.100 … −17.320) are sheet-local, not geographic.
